Mrs. Eisko's rendering, of Gerhart
Hauptmann’s Hannele' was the prin¬
cipal offering on a double bill althe Ly¬
ceum last night. The title role was
Mrs. Fiske's.
Neariyg every phase of misery was
shown in Hannele’s life and surround¬
ings. In her delirium she reached the
heights—her dream gave her all the
peace, comfort and love denied in her
existence.
The step-child of a brutal father, who
seeks relief by drowning herself; this
was Hannele’s introduction to the big
andience at the Lyeeum last night.
Hannele is rescned and carried te an
almshouse, which is no more attractive,
than one can easily imagine.
Her soul is frightened, her body:
