cipal offering on a double bill at the Ly¬
ceum last night. The title role was
Mrs. Fiske's.
Nearly every phase of misery was
shown in Hannele’s life and surround¬
ings. In her delirium she reached the
heights—her dream gave her all the
peace, comfort and love denied. in her
existeflee.
The step-child of a brutal father, who
seeks relief by drowning herseif; this
was Hannele’s introduction to the big
andienee at the Lyecum last night.
Hannele is rescued and carried to an
almshouse, which is no more attractive,
than one can easily imagine.
Her soul is frightened, her body
beaten. She dreads the approach of the
drucken step-father. Her foverish fear
