In spite of the fact that Dr. Akrnek SchairztEk is one of the most prominent of modern Continental
Dramatists, he has up tothe present only been represented on the English stage bythe wholly serious side of
his art, as shown in the Play“ The Hospital,“ produced at the Court Theatre, by Messrs. VEDRENNE and
BakkER. But much of his work combines the subtlety and esprif of the Parisien with the humour and
insight of the Viennese, and these Comedies are characteristic examples of his lighter moods; nevertheless,
in them, as in bis more serious work, his touch is as unerring as his style is trenchant.
